Violence

(Vere, Stein Atle. ©2011. "Comment: Violence". brakha.blogspot.com.)

Violence remains vital to human survival, whether by armies, police, or homeowners. Ethics requires us to minimize violence. We must achieve altruistic goals with the minimal amount of violence possible, but enough to remain effective. But "proportionality in warfare" is a false doctrine. Violence must be asymmetric: police must use enough violence to apprehend any criminal who violates the freedoms of others. Sometimes police violence must be more than the criminals, sometimes less. It is independent. We still cant eliminate violence because defenselessness itself still provokes victimization.
